10-Week Scene Study Plan

Weeks 1-2: Scene Assignment and First Read
Each actor receives 2 scenes. First read-throughs recorded. Initial character analysis submitted as written work.

Weeks 3-4: Objective and Obstacle Work
Identifying the through-line of each scene. What does each character need, and what stands in the way?

Weeks 5-6: Physical Staging
Blocking developed organically from character logic, not director imposition. Actors propose and test staging choices.

Weeks 7-8: Language and Rhythm
Verse, prose, and contemporary dialogue each handled differently. Specific attention to how punctuation shapes delivery.

Week 9: Pressure Runs
Full scenes performed with 8-person audience present. No stopping, no notes mid-scene.

Week 10: Final Performance and Debrief
Polished performance followed by 30-minute individual debrief session with the instructor.
About this program
Scene study at the advanced level is not about learning new rules. It is about learning when to break the ones you already know.
This course is built around 6 full scenes worked over 10 weeks. Each scene goes through 4 rounds of rehearsal, feedback, and re-staging. The instructor works with you on specific moments - not general notes - and the group of 8 actors watches and responds to each other's work. That audience pressure is intentional. Stage performance does not happen in a vacuum.
The structure behind the work
Sessions meet 3 times per week. 2 sessions are scene rehearsal with instructor presence. The third is a peer workshop where actors give and receive structured feedback using a written framework provided at the start of the course. You can download manual notes from each session or read them through the course portal - the download guide format makes it easier to annotate and return to specific feedback points.
What this course does not do
It does not teach basic technique. Actors without prior formal training or at least 18 months of consistent stage experience will find the pace too fast. The application includes a short video submission - 90 seconds of prepared material - so the instructor can assess fit before enrollment is confirmed.
